9 Factors that Shape Human's Behavior

Humans' behavior never ceases to amaze me. You can easily tell one from another through their behaviors. Everyone by his/her own is a unique creature. Even identical twins have their own set of characterictics that differ them from his/her sibling. In my opinion, 9 things that shape humans' behavior as well as their mind are as followed (from the strongest factor):

1. Parents
2. Media (newspaper, TVs, movies, music, internet, entertainment)
3. Family (brothers, sisters, relatives)
4. Society (friends, neighborhood, country one lives in)
5. Self-worth (how one views theirselves)
6. Personal experience (one's journey through life)
7. Faith (what one believes in)
8. The way one views the world
9. Conscience (what one perceives as right or wrong)

Well, that's it. Feel free to add what you think might affect human's behavior ^^

February 23rd Journal

Today is unbelievably hot. When I say 'hot' it literally means that. At first I thought the air con is not working but after I checked and saw that it was on the lowest possible temperature I realised our earth is getting hotter day by day. Not even 2 air cons can cope with it. This is without a doubt the effect of global warming. On days like these how I wish it was raining instead of burning every inches square of my skin. Nevertheless, I'm still enjoying my life, especially with yesterday's events. Thank you R, it is you and everyone that keeps supporting me against all odds.
Cheers for a better tomorrow! =D

February 17th Journal

It has been 5 days since my arrival at Banda Aceh for job purpose. My stomach is a bit hungry as I write this journal in my hotel room. There, it growls again. Don't worry, I'll feed ya soon!
I have my lunch in a hurry as I don't have much time during the afternoon. This situation has continued for straight 3 days :( and that's why I'm starving right now. Keep on mentioning it won't help I guess, so let's just leave it at that haha.

Kay, let me tell you a bit about this city I won't probable leave in the next few days - I hear someone shouting 'hurray!'. Aceh was literally annihilated by tsunami disaster several years ago but now as so many foreign donation comes in Aceh has finally and slowly recovered. At least, I see no more corpses and ruins of building or even a ship in the middle of the town while I'm here. Now if you come to Banda Aceh you will find lots of foreigners, either travelling or working here. As a matter of fact, I think Aceh's condition is far far better now compared to the time before disaster struck. Living cost is almost the same as Jakarta's, everything is quite expensive here.

Aceh is a suitable place if you want to find a living - in terms of job. If you are looking for entertainment you should think twice before deciding to come. I don't know what it was like before the tsunami but the only fun you can find here is food. No shopping centres, cinemas, big malls, clubs, karaoke, to mention some. For me, it is practically boring. Aceh's moslem influence is still strong, a bit fanaticism I think. They don't even allow swimming pool in a hotel and if they do - like in the one I'm staying at - you have to swim with your clothing on, regardless of whether you're a 'he' or a 'she'. In fact, I rarely see people swim here. *stomach growls

Talking bout food, last 2 or 3 nights - can't remember clearly, I went for dinner to a place just beside the ocean. The wooden floor was uneven, when people run or walk you can feel the floor shook, since the whole place was built above water. Since it is very near to the ocean, you can feel the wind blowing. I don't know how was it like during the day but I enjoy the wind breeze during the night, though my food got cold quickly due to that haha. You got to choose what seafood you'd like to have: from fish to lobster, crab to crocodiles hehe. The crabs are alive and others are kept in ice so they are all still fresh. I was quite satisfied with the food *yummy I'll rate them 8 out of 10. If you happen to come here I'll recommend BBQ Fish, Black Pepper Crab, and the fried banana dipped with milk. They're great! O yeah, the name of the place is 'Banda Seafood' without the 'Aceh'.

*growls. "Shut up stupid stomach!" think better take care of this stomach of mine. Will get back soon to you guys. See ya!

I'm back and they nearly didn't put my buffet on bill. If only I don't remember one principle I hold dear - integrity. Just finished my dinner down at the restaurant. It was crowded by people, though I don't know what occasion it is tonight. Well, I don't really care now that I'm full =P.

I'm involved in one hospital project and will be here for two more days. Think everything will be finished by Friday. Tired, think I'll go online for a while before go to sleep. End of report.

Developing New Habit(s) is Too Troublesome!

The idea of having to change our habit is terribly frightening to some. We often think the change as something permanent and we have to stick with it for the rest of our lives when we use to do the opposite instead. In the end of the day, we do nothing. The mission fails before it starts due to our unwillingness to cope with those overwhelming thoughts of having to change permanently.

But what if the change only lasts temporarily? I happen to read this on one article and I think it is a pretty interesting method. You only need to maintain the new habit for a period of time, in this case 30 days. The idea of time period makes it easier since we know that after that we are free to revert back to our old ways of living. On the other hand, during that period we might grow accustomed to the new habits such that at the end of the period we don't find the idea to be such a big ideal anymore and can live with it permanently. It is a win-win solution.

If you find the 30-day period to be too long for you to handle you can always make it shorter. 15 days are fine. Once you complete it try to go for the 30-day limit. I try once (30-day) and on the 4th day I break it. Damn! It still requires a bit of discipline and commitment, but not nearly so much as making a permanent change. I'll re-do the whole thing starting tomorrow.

There are only two things I want you to know if you commit to do this exercise:
1. Don’t think that you need to continue any of these habits beyond 30 days. That way, you won't psyche yourself up. Think also of all the benefits you might acquire for those 30 days.
2. Really, I mean really commit yourself and don't break the rules once you decide to do this. The long-term result if you break the rules is you will start losing trust in yourself. It is called integrity: doing the right things even when others don't see you.

Let's do this!

The World Ain't All Sunshine and Rainbows

Below is my favorite quote from 'Rocky'. Truly inspiring and encourages me whenever I feel down.

"I'd hold you up to say to your mother, "this kid's gonna be the best kid in the world. This kid's gonna be somebody better than anybody I ever knew."
And you grew up good and wonderful. It was great just watching you, every day was like a privilige.

Then the time come for you to be your own man and take on the world, and you did. But somewhere along the line, you changed. You stopped being you. You let people stick a finger in your face and tell you you're no good. And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow.

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.

You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth.
But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody!
Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that! I'm always gonna love you no matter what. No matter what happens. You're my son and you're my blood. You're the best thing in my life. But until you start believing in yourself, ya ain't gonna have a life"

Yes the world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. Fight!

Life and My View of It

There are times when I do nothing and my mind goes wondering: what is the purpose of my life? Why do I exist in the first place? If I didn't exist at all, what would have changed? How does it feel like to not exist? Emptiness, blankness, darkness, hollow..

As you start asking these questions you will view life in a whole different way. Most people live their lives like an automated machine, better known as robots. You wake up in the morning, have your breakfast, work, lunch, go home, interact with your children, dinner, and by the end of the day you kiss your lifetime partner good night. The cycle continues, goes on and on.. They pretty much screw their lives. I can't say I am no different from them, because I myself am searching for the perfect way of life and would like to align myself once I find it.

I am not truly satisfied with my way of living, yet. I have come nowhere near the fulfillment of my dream, my wishes, my goals. Men trying to define the right way of life seems like a mad man trying to explain why the he is actually sane. Our brain capacity has its limit, though research has proven that during the course of their lives, men only tap on 10% capacity of their brain with the remaining 90% never finds its way to the surface. Perhaps if one can really utilize his brain capability to the maximum, he will become God Himself.

Humans' behaviors are greatly affected by how they view life. Is their life beautiful? Or do they live a pathetic life? It is the lenses from which we view the world. Life viewed by a 5-year old boy and by an abused child might not be the same. A 5-year old boy with constant love and attention given by his parents might not experience the pain felt by a child whose parents keep abusing him. The reality of a happy family is not there from the start. The actual difference lies in our perspective and social conditioning. Yet, in reality we only have one earth.

I myself view world as a mean to express myself. I truly believe that you will obtain what you truly desire, not what you want. Simply wanting something is not enough. My future me, my future life depends on the present me. Where you are today is decided by yesterday's decision. Similarly, where you will be tomorrow depends on what you do today. This simple fact always helps me carve my way towards my goal and prevents me from going in the wrong direction. So, live your life to the fullest, have no regret, and achieve your dreams!
